Since 1992, José Caldas has been investigating the Mono-carvoeiros which are in danger of extinction. In their main refuge, the Montes Claros farm, in Caratinga, Minas Gerais, he discovered why the Brachyteles arachnoides attract the attention of so many researchers in Brazil and in the rest of the world. These photographs illustrate the intelligence and the politeness of the wooly spider monkeys, which form social groups without a dominant male and the bond that exists between neighbor monkeys is demonstrated by hugs that they give to each other.
